Dennis Nowstrup, CLU®, ChFC®, MBA

Founding Principal

A Maryland native, Dennis entered the financial services industry in 1988 after a successful career with Shell Oil Company and Shell Pipeline Corporation. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maryland. There, he was president of Pi Tau Sigma and a member of Tau Beta Pi engineering honor societies. Dennis also earned a Master of Business Administration from the University of Houston.

An award-winning advisor with over 30 years of experience, Dennis holds some of the most coveted certifications and memberships in the industry. He is a licensed Chartered Financial Consultant® (ChFC®) and Chartered Life Underwriter® (CLU®).

Dennis is a graduate of The Strategic Coach Program, and a financial adviser for Eagle Strategies LLC. He’s a member of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, and the Estate Planning Council of Central Texas.

An Austin resident since 1988, Dennis has served the community at The Lost Creek Neighborhood Association, as Ambassador for the Austin Chamber of Commerce, and in the Founder Lions Club of Austin.  An active member of his local church, he volunteers with one- to two-year-olds and  Mobile Loaves and Fishes. He is an avid car enthusiast and is the owner/mechanic of a flamed, black, 1940 Ford Tudor Deluxe hot rod. 

 

 

Erik Engh

Principal

Erik has served the Austin Community as a financial advisor since 2013. He holds a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from Texas State University. As a Principal of Cadence Wealth Management, Erik embodies the tenets of servant leadership and strength in collaboration. He works actively alongside his team and encourages collaboration within their diverse collective experience. His thoughtful leadership delivers exceptional service and success for clients.

When his family experienced a medical crisis, Erik learned first-hand that helping families plan for the unexpected was the most meaningful path he could pursue. This first-hand experience gives Erik a unique perspective and insight.

When it comes to the team’s community service efforts, Erik leads by example. An enthusiastic philanthropist, he supports numerous local organizations, including Black FretHelping Hand Home, and Family Legacy. In his free time, you can find Erik spoiling his niece and nephews, sailing on Lake Travis, or running with his standard poodle, Finn.

 

 

Susan Nowstrup, CFP®

Financial Planning Coordinator

Susan Nowstrup holds a Bachelor of Business Administration with honors from Stephen F. Austin State University. She was a member of Beta Gamma Sigma Business Honor Society, an officer in Alpha Chi Honor Society, and the recipient of the highest-ranking senior award.

After three years in corporate finance, Susan entered the financial services industry in 1984. She completed the Certified Financial Planner designation in 1988, making her a pioneer in the field.

Susan is an active member of Austin Ridge Bible Church, where she and Dennis volunteer with the toddlers. She also volunteers with Drive a Senior and with leads two Mobile Loaves and Fishes teams.  She enjoys gardening, good books, photography, and hiking.

 

 

Colin Kendrick, MBA

Colin has been a personal financial advisor since 2017. He holds an MBA with a dual concentration in finance and accounting from UT Austin. His previous work experience includes a decade as a strategist for Dell, several years in business development for Apple and SunPower, and as an executive officer of a start-up in the Austin Technology Incubator. Before that, Colin was a consultant for high net-worth individuals at Pricewaterhouse. His work there included portfolio management, tax compliance, and philanthropic planning for individuals and family foundations.

Colin grew up in Austin and spent his formative years pursuing the best local music he could find. His love of music and philanthropy are catalysts for him to serve on the Board of Directors for the Austin Music Foundation and as Chairman, President & Founder of Black Fret.

 

 

Shawn Sperrazza, MBA

Shawn started in the financial services industry shortly after completing his Master of Business Administration at the University of Texas at Dallas. Shawn has ten years of experience in client-facing business operations. He was drawn to the industry by his love of serving customers and building lasting relationships. Shawn is licensed for life and health insurance and holds securities licenses 7, 6 and 63. His responsibilities include Financial Plan Analysis and Data Management.

Growing up in an oil and gas family, Shawn spent years living all around the world until 2002 when he planted roots here in Austin. He also holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Texas, reflecting his passion for the arts, particularly painting and photography. Shawn enjoys spending his downtime with friends and his dog Bandita.

 

 

Karen Porter

Operations Manager

Karen Porter, a lifelong Austinite, has been in the financial services industry since 1983 and has enjoyed increasing levels of responsibility with Cadence since 1997. Clients appreciate her engaging personality and “How can I help?” attitude. They agree that Karen gets it right the first time and follows through with incredible tenacity and attention to detail.

Karen is licensed for life and health insurance and holds securities licenses 6 and 63. Her responsibilities include client service, database management, underwriting, accounting, purchasing, and keeping the entire office running smoothly. Karen has two grown children and is an energetically devoted “Memaw” to two wonderful grandchildren.

 

 

Colleen Gallion, CPCC

Colleen has over 20 years of experience leading sales and service teams in the tech sector. When she discovered she could support meaningful change in people’s lives through financial services, she was hooked. Colleen is a graduate of Boston University and is a Certified Professional Co-Active Coach.

Colleen serves her community as a chairperson for her local PTA, a fundraiser for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and singing in the choir at her church . Colleen enjoys making and listening to great music, spending time with her husband, Chad, and their kids, Lex and Evelyn. Whenever possible, she’s cuddling her two dachshunds, Mitzi and Fripp.

 

 

Kevin Zimmerman

Kevin, an Austin native, began his financial services career in 2015. He is passionate about helping his clients be proactive in their financial planning. His wealth of experience includes assisting people in finding their way out of the 2008 mortgage crisis to navigating the process of starting their own business.

Kevin is licensed for life and health insurance and holds securities licenses 6 and 63. His responsibilities include client service, underwriting, and other administrative functions. Outside the office, Kevin enjoys exploring Austin’s amazing culinary scene with his wife, Carmen.

 

 

David Tucker, RICP®

A San Antonio native, David has proudly called Austin home since starting his financial services career in 2013. He has a passion for helping others and a “give first” philosophy that he generously shares with his clients and his community. Through advanced coursework, David has earned the designation of Retirement Income Certified Professional®. With this knowledge, he helps his clients navigate the complexities of managing a retirement distribution plan as they transition into the retirement phase of life.

David is a dedicated Rotarian, holding multiple positions in the Austin Cosmopolitan Rotary Club. He participates in numerous community service projects every year and actively seeks new and better ways to serve his local and global community. David enjoys traveling to National Parks around the country and taking in the live music scene in Austin with his partner Allysa.

 

 

Joe Neal Kerr

Joe Neal has been working in financial services since 2008. Over the past decade, he has focused his practice on helping business owners and professionals ideate their goals and align their financial lives to achieve them. He prides himself on being an independent and unbiased advocate for his clients’ best interests.

A graduate of Texas A&M, he worked as a homebuilding superintendent and as a ranch hand on his family’s ranch before moving into financial services. These experiences taught him invaluable lessons on project management, hard work, and good stewardship.

Joe Neal contributes to the community by serving as Chair of the Development Council for Texans CAN Academy - Austin and volunteering on various committees with NAIFA-TX. In his free time, you can find him trying to keep up with his two children, Morgan and Ayres, and working on his guitar chops.

 

 

Justin Wiseman

Justin Wiseman’s career in financial services began after 13 years as a touring musician and songwriter. His music career took him all over the world, affording countless opportunities to participate in music’s ability to enrich people’s lives. Being able to meaningfully connect with and inspire people is what drew him to financial services. Justin has a Bachelor’s in Math Education from Abilene Christian University. He draws on his teaching background to help empower his clients to achieve their financial goals. 

Outside of work, you can find Justin on stage at his church, where he serves as part of the music ministry. As a dedicated father, he enjoys spending quality time with his wife and kids.
